Life experiences of reading! Blog post #2 (5352)

My experiences during my six through twelve years in school. My experiences are negative; based off of the material being pushed and forced upon me. I never felt like any books, stories, or information seem meaningful towards me. As I look back I never noticed how much that had an affect on me and my potential learning style.

The first book I read and opened me up mentally was "The Autobiography Of Malcom X," this book was giving to me. By a principal name Mr. Harris (My mentor) who pushed reading on me. He stressed that books are the gateway to learning and understanding. The two people who have had the most positive impact are Mr. Harris and Mr. Nicolas. The positive things these two educators did was challenge me to read and challenge me to do better. I personally never had anyone stress the value of education on me. My mindset at the time was sports and going D1. I never had someone stress academics or even mention to me why it is so important. These two were very positive! I credit them for me wanting to be an educator as well.

The main memory I will use for my students will be to being open and asking questions. Once you show interest in them you can start the relationship building process. I will use the method of reading to my class (like Dr. Giles). I will also make sure to have reading material to met the students at he or she level. Give the material or books on topics or information that is current and up-to-date. I want my students to understand the value of reading! The best way is to show, express, and do with action the value of reading and constantly learning.
